NMC’s Peter Hofstetter Named CEO of the Year
Peter Hofstetter, NMC CEOBrentwood, Tenn. (June 16, 2008)-- Peter Hofstetter, Chief Executive Officer of Northwestern Medical Center, was awarded QHR's first annual "CEO of the Year" award during their annual meeting in Brentwood, TN, Thursday, June 5, 2008. Peter was chosen from among more than 150 of his hospital CEO peers across the U.S. for this great honor.

QHR is one of the quiet partners in NMC’s success. Dating back to the hospital merger in the late 1970’s, NMC has enjoyed the benefits of management, consulting, and education services provided by QHR, formerly known as Quorum Health Resources.

Jim Horrar, President of QHR, presented Peter with his award, saying “When one considers the fundamental aspects of a leader, many qualities come to mind including strategic foresight, enthusiasm, emotional intelligence, effective communication, determination, and loyalty (just to name a few). Peter Hofstetter personifies these qualities as CEO for Northwestern Medical Center (NMC) in St. Albans, Vermont and has been doing so for many years.”

Horrar added, “Northwestern Medical Center has thrived under Peter's leadership for the past 15 years always ranked as one of the top performers statewide and in the company for financial, customer service, and quality. NMC has strong days cash on hand and operating margin, an updated facility, little debt, and a positive culture making it one of the top places to work in northern Vermont.”

“Peter has always maintained an open door policy to employee and physician concerns which has fostered this open and inclusive environment. He leads by example as his employees know they will never be asked to do something that he wouldn't do himself, with ethics and integrity serving as the cornerstones of his value system,” he said.

John Casavant, President of NMC’s Board of Directors, agrees with Horrar’s comments, adding, “Peter is certainly deserving of this recognition from QHR, and we applaud their decision to recognize him with their first annual CEO of the Year Award. We are very fortunate to have such a tremendous professional leading our hospital, as well as sharing his vision, energy, and support to many organizations in our community and throughout the state. I’m proud of NMC’s work, in large part because of Peter’s dedication to doing the right thing for our hospital and our community.”
